Proposal for “exchange of territories” on the top table
Donald Trump has declared that a possible peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine could include “an exchange of territories”. The statements arrived at a press conference and on Truth Social, where Trump said: “There are territories for which we have been fighting for 3 and a half years, we are trying to get something behind. It is all very complicated, there will be some exchange, but we will talk about it. There will be an exchange of territories for the benefit of both sides”. According to some officials, a proposal on the ceased was presented by Putin, including the sale of the Eastern Region of Donbass and the recognition of Crimea by Ukraine, with the aim of obtaining the international recognition of Russian claims.
The clear position of Volodymyr Zelensky against each sale
Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, in his public statements and on social networks he reiterated: “Ukrainians defend what they are … of course, we will not give Russia any reward for what he did … the answer to the Ukrainian territorial question is already in the establishment of Ukraine … Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupant”. Zelensky insists that the territorial integrity of Ukraine is not negotiable. He openly rejected any option for the exchange of territories proposed under closed doors by the leaders of other countries.
Zelensky stressed that every peace negotiation will have to involve Kiev. During a message addressed to its citizens and the international community, the president said: “Any decision against us, any decision that does not involve Ukraine, is at the same time a decision against peace. It will not lead to anything. They are decisions born death. They are impractical decisions. And we all need a true and authentic peace. A peace that people respect”. Zelensky has also explained that the Ukrainian Constitution already establishes the lines on the territorial question and nobody can detach himself from them.
First consultations between the USA, Ukraine and EU before the summit
Officials of the United States, Ukraine and several European countries have planned to meet in the United Kingdom on the weekend before the summit. The goal is to look for common positions in view of the appointment between Trump and Putin. In the same hours, the tension on the ground did not fall: four civilians were injured in attacks by the Russian armed forces in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Evacuations in the communities of the Donetsk region also continue, where according to the governor Vadym Filashkin, at least 109 children from villages affected by military operations will have to start.
The fights continue and diplomatic attention remains high
While preparing the summit in Alaska, the front in Ukraine remains active. In the Dnipropetrovsk region there were explosions and attacks with drones and artillery in the districts of Nikopol and Synelnykove, with damage to houses and at least four injured people. Kiev reiterates that concrete solutions for peace are ready, but every step will not be able to ignore the direct involvement of Ukraine in the agreement.
