Strange but true. A policeman disguised as a shrub to give fines instead of a normal speed camera. The idea, somewhat out of the ordinary, comes from a New Jersey police department. A unique stunt that cost dozens of fines to as many distracted motorists. In the town of Dunellen, cops set up an alternative checkpoint to catch careless drivers who were mostly identified using their cell phones behind the wheel.
“Did you notice our shrub today? If you had your head bent over your phone, probably not!”: this sentence was published on Facebook by the same police department which, accompanied by photographs, explained to citizens the trick implemented to deceive motorists on North Washington Ave, a very busy area of the US city.
“Keep your eyes on the road, not on the screen!”
Essentially, an officer from the police department disguised himself as a shrub, covering himself from head to toe in leaves. Thus disguised and with binoculars, he identified dozens of traffic violations, bringing 74 fines to the local administration in just six hours.
“The results? Our bush has been very busy. That text or notification can wait. Keep your eyes on the road, not on the screen!”, the department commented on social media before issuing a reminder to drivers.
