iRobot presented Roomba Duo, an advanced dual-unit robot vacuum cleaner and floor mop, at Ifa 2026. The new system addresses one of the main limitations of the category: wet & dry vacuum cleaners (capable of vacuuming and mopping together) offer high cleaning power, but lack autonomous navigation, while robot vacuum cleaners and floor cleaners guarantee the convenience of cleaning without manual intervention, but not the cleaning power of a wet & dry vacuum cleaner. Roomba Duo solves the problem by combining an advanced main robot, which vacuums and steams floors, with an ultra-compact secondary robot.
Dual drive architecture
At the heart of the concept is a capability that no other robot vacuum cleaner for the consumer market offers: a robot capable of carrying and releasing a second unit. The main robot integrates a mechanical arm in the upper part. Thanks to it, it can safely lower and release an ultra-compact secondary robot into the tightest spaces that the main unit cannot reach. The two robots communicate in real time and use artificial intelligence to coordinate their respective cleaning activities: the main unit carefully vacuums and washes large, free surfaces, while the secondary robot, thanks to its agile and compact design, reaches the areas under furniture, the narrowest spaces and other places that conventional robots often cannot clean.
The main unit overcomes the physical limitations of conventional robot vacuum cleaners. Its characteristic cylindrical body maximizes internal space and allows you to integrate a wet & dry module for vacuuming and washing floors, a high-performance motor and a high-capacity battery. The industry-leading 60mm diameter PowerSpin Max floor scrubber exerts 46N of downward pressure (approximately 4.7kg), thoroughly cleaning the floor.
As a pre-treatment, an internal heater generates controlled steam, distributed evenly across affected areas, to help loosen stubborn, caked-on dirt without exposing the floor to excessive heat. A self-cleaning roller then removes loose dirt and sticky residue, from sauce to cooking fat. A hot air drying component, positioned behind the roller, dries the wet surface and helps protect wooden floors from prolonged exposure to moisture.
The secondary robot is the iRobot Roomba Plus 575, a product launched in early 2026. It reaches corners and edges, right where pet hair and dirt accumulate most. With a height of just 8.35 cm and a width of 29.8 cm, this secondary robot also moves easily between chairs and cleans under beds, sofas and TV furniture.

The secondary robot’s PerfectEdge mopping cloth extends outwards to 31mm and works in conjunction with the edge cleaning side brush, cleaning in corners, along walls and skirting boards. Thanks to the liftable omnidirectional wheels, it overcomes thresholds up to 3.5 cm high.
Both units feature ClearView Pro dual-line lidar and PrecisionVision AI to detect and bypass common objects in your home. Furthermore, the main unit integrates, in the upper part, AI cameras that acquire a wider and more elevated view of the rooms, furniture and layout of the spaces. This allows Roomba Duo to create more detailed maps, as well as locate larger stains or areas with build-up of dirt.
The shared AutoWash base manages automatic maintenance in one place. It integrates a centralized clean water supply system and a dirty water tank, automatically washes and dries the mop cloths and empties the collected dust into a large bag, allowing months of use without manual intervention.
iRobot Roomba Duo is currently a prototype. Price and availability are therefore not known.
