Ah, my lady, there are no more iPhones like there used to be, someone would say if they knew how to use social media. But fortunately, we add, because in the end it means that the world is moving forward and could become better. Thanks to artificial intelligence.
In short, last night Apple held its keynote for the release of the iPhone 16, or rather the iPhone 16s, and this already explains what has happened in Cupertino in recent years. In practice, it has now become the ritual that announces the autumn of technology, and although Apple has changed, the wait is still spasmodic. So much so that – unable to contain all the Melafonino enthusiasts on site (in addition to the lucky and very loyal ones present at the Steve Jobs Theater) – Apple since Covid has broadcast a presentation to the world that is no longer live but remains very well packaged. After all, the trademark is design, and so everything must be done to perfection. Even the iPhone, of course, which has been available for a while in four formats (base, Plus, Pro and Pro Max), in the 16 version has confirmed its appearance, adding more novelties inside than outside. After all, this is the law of AI: once the perfect device has been invented, the wonder must now be put inside. But Apple wants to be sure that everything is in order, and so we will have to wait for the release in October of the new operating system iOS 18, or rather iOS 18.1. And for Apple Intelligence, the suite of new features that make it glow – that is, shine (it’s glowtime, was the title of yesterday’s appointment) -, the clash with the EU on privacy will postpone everything to 2025. Or even 2026, given that Italian is not among the languages announced.
In the meantime, the new models have added a super processor (A18 and A18 Pro, precisely ready for AI), features and megapixels for an increasingly professional camera (with a dedicated Camera Control button on the side to take shots more easily), a battery that hopefully you don’t have to argue with (is that a promise?). The 16 models have a 6.1 and 6.7 screen (the Plus), the two vertical cameras (the main one is 48 megapixels). The Pro (the Desert Titanium color is beautiful), instead, increase in size – they are 6.3 and 6.9 for the Pro Max -, improve the materials and, of course, photos and videos have various pro editing functions and the ability to shoot in 4k at 120 fps and with slow motion cinemascope. Without forgetting the Audio Mix that separates the tracks in the editing.
For the rest, here is the new format of Apple Watch 10, with a thinner, more resistant OLED screen, large like that of the Ultra, softer and easier to use. Three colors (white, black and pink), and new functions such as monitoring of sleep apnea, the “crush detection” to warn of a fall and the cancellation of background noise, all driven by AI.
Finally, the AirPods 4 headphones with automatic noise cancellation and the AirPods Max headphones, which can also monitor hearing loss.
All this with the usual coveted prices: iPhone 16, for example, starts at 979 euros, while the Pros range from 1,239 towards 2,000. Because – my lady – in the end the iPhone is always the same.
