No person under investigation should be treated like a dog. Let this be clear from the beginning. However, I would like to point out some elements which I think are important to take into account.
According to the prosecution, a German – wanted in Germany with the issuing of a European arrest warrant – together with his partner, starting from 2017 he created this political organization with criminal purposes in Leipzig, of which Ilaria Salis also joined. The Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office accuses the Italian woman of the crime of attempted personal injury with danger to life committed as a member of such an organisation, while the German man and the woman of German nationality are accused of the crime of participation in a political organization with criminal purposes.
The Budapest Prosecutor’s Office also proposes to issue European and international arrest warrants against 14 other people involved in the case (2 Italians, 1 Albanian, 1 Syrian and 10 German citizens). Members of that organization reportedly agreed that the ideological struggle against far-right sympathizers should be conducted with violence. As a result, they agreed to carry out organized attacks against victims of their choice, identified or believed to be far-right sympathizers. Their goal was to cause serious injuries to the victims.
Now, my impression is that it wants to mount a case against Orbán and the alleged authoritarianism in force in Hungary, at a time when the Hungarian Prime Minister is opposing with all his might a new shipment of weapons to Ukraine and the EU is threatening retaliation against the Hungarian people. But there is no trace of all this in the Italian newspapers.
