Choosing to charge your mobile phone during the night, even better if you are sleeping, is without a doubt a very widespread habit among people: according to experts, however, it is a habit that can lead to committing a little-known error and capable, in the long run, of negatively affecting both the durability and performance of the drums of the electronic device. In some cases, among other things, even the way in which you arrange your smartphone while charging at night can constitute a problem, in this case for our own health.

Leaving your cell phone on charge during sleeping hours means “risking” getting to the 100%which is not recommended if you want to preserve the existence of the battery and guarantee its best performance throughout the day. The lithium ion batteries present in modern smartphones, in fact, guarantee optimal quality of their performance and a good level of durability over time, the so-called “life cycle”, if the charge is between 20/30% and ’80/90%.

This means that it would always be advisable to disconnect the electronic device from the cable before reaching 100% and put it on charge when it reaches 20%. If, however, you want to keep it off for a longer period of time than usual, perhaps even for a few days, it is better to bring the battery to at least 50%. The ideal is therefore to try to avoid stressing the batteries with charging volumes that are too high or too low: stress which, in the long run, can compromise the power module and reduce their life cycle as well as charging time. to manage over the course of a day.

Another highly inadvisable practice is to use the smartphone excessively while it is attached to the cable, creating what is defined as a “parasitic load”: playing video games or watching videos during these phases leads not only to dysfunctional charging cycles, but also to a overheating excessive use of the electronic device, a further element that shortens the life of the battery.

And here we also come to a second problem, connected to another incorrect habit, that of keeping the mobile phone charging between the blankets or under the pillow during the night, or perhaps near another heat source: the exponential increase in temperature can result fire risks or, in some cases, explosions, with all the consequences that can arise from such situations.
