But really do doctors or do the lawyers become useless? Isn’t it really better to study anymore, so artificial intelligence thinks about it? So at least he holds Futurism, who only has the word in the subtitle (it would be “Science and Technology News for the Future”, Wow!) And in practice it is a site (also very followed, for heaven’s sake) that the country of apocalyptic prophecies, waiting for Skynet.
This time the pretext was an interview with Business Insider in which a former Google manager, Jad Tarifi, had declared that certain academic paths too long risk being overcome by the speed of innovation. Ok, but it was a speech with many distinctions, many if and many but. Immediately transformed by Futurism into a universal edict: goodbye doctors, goodbye lawyers, the AI graduates before you, take care of only ai (seriously?).
Too bad that the facts go in the opposite direction, at least for now, and perhaps for a long time, given that the hype of the infinite scalability of the Ai is diminishing. Some examples? In Alabama, three lawyers delivered acts full of quotes invented by Chatgpt: judge Anna Manasco kicked them out of chance and reported to the order. In New Jersey and Mississippi two federal judges had to withdraw decisions full of causes never existed, justifying themselves with “clerical errors” that stinking a copy-paste from chatbot. In Argentina, in the UK, the same show in Australia: lawyers who delegate the chatbot work and end up producing science fiction novel documents. In California the masterpiece: a brief full of errors, contested, always rewritten with the IA, returned and still full of invented quotes.
It is not very different on the medical front. You don’t need to imagine future scenarios: we already use systems that use recognition algorithms, from the machines that analyze a CT to the software that read an electrocardiogram, yet the doctors have not disappeared, indeed the more technology becomes sophisticated and the more someone is needed who knows how to interpret it and correct the errors. Because it is not the tool that guarantees the cure but those who use it, especially when health is involved, and the more powerful the instrument is the more indispensable those who control it (and not any controller, always serves a qualified doctor who knows how to distinguish a real anomaly from an invented statistics). Imagine ai who is wrong, make a mistake, make the care, kills the patient, and around who imagines us, four AI experts who shrug?
By the way: the MIT Media Lab calculates that 95% of artificial intelligence company projects do not bring concrete results. It is not that the IA graduates before, he graduated in any case by carrying his hallucinations behind, and probably he will carry them behind forever (despite the various Fix, the LLM continue to have hallucinations).
In short, guys, other than the end of medicine and law: the real collapse is that of technological information, and I refer to that which lives of imaginary catastrophes and sensational titles. Ai without Hype, as Enkk says. Wonderful but let’s calm down. And if I really have to say it all, even on art I still have to see something interesting that they are not viral videos, memes, remix of already known styles, images fucked by other images, zero revolutionary ideas.
Already because everyone speaks of art with the AI (as once the NFTs) as something revolutionary, as if the vehicle was already the aim, and thinking of Marcel Duchamp enough to move an editorial to move forever the boundaries of contemporary art.
