Eni launches the “HPC Call4Innovators” initiative and provides its “Super Computer”. Thanks to the project, startups, private/public SMEs, freelancers, academic institutions and research centers will in fact have direct access to the HPC6 supercalcolo resources to test their calculation models and collaborate with the experts of the company, with the aim of accelerating the development of technologies for decarbonization and promoting innovative computational methodologies applied to the energy transition. All in collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Cineca Consortium with the support of Plug and Play. Therefore, the realities to which the use of the HPC6 supercalculator is open are invited to propose an innovative project of simulation and modeling in the HPC environment within five strategic thematic areas. And that is: computational science of materials, meteorology and earth sciences, management of the energy portfolio, engineering systems, intelligent mobility. Plug and Play will facilitate, through its Open Innovation platform, the connection between Eni and the excellence in the high -performance calculation applied to the energy sector. The candidates collected will be evaluated by Eni, together with the technological partners, and those selected will be able to benefit from access to an international level technological infrastructure such as HPC6 and the network of specialist skills of Eni. “Innovation and constant improvement in technologies are essential to maintain and strengthen not only Eni’s leadership in the energy transition but also to encourage the development of computational methodologies for decarbonisation. Through this initiative Eni shares its technological and programming skills in order to promote projects with an innovative approach that generate an impact on the energy transition and technological competitiveness “, explained Lorenzo Fiorillo, director Technology, R&D & Digital of Eni. For years Cineca has recalled the general director Alessandra Poggiani, “collaborates with Eni in the management of one of the most powerful supercalcol systems in the world”, with the support of the Ministry of the University and Research, and “has matured a unique experience in the management of high impact HPC infrastructures”.
For Claudio Bassoli, president and in Hpe Italia, “systems such as HPC6 represent a fundamental component for research and innovation in the field of high -performance calculation. HPC6 is not only a technological goal but also a catalyst and accelerator for scientific, industrial and social innovation ».
“With Call4Innovators” commented Travis Karr, Vice President Advanced Micro Devices “we aim to promote startups and researchers making the advanced HPC skills and artificial intelligence more accessible, accelerating the creation of high impact solutions for a more sustainable future”.
The selected startups, explained Tommaso Maschera, director of Plug and Play Italy, “will be able to test, validate and optimize their computational models in a very high performance environment thanks to one of the most powerful supercomputer in the world, reducing development times and maximizing the impact of their solutions. This initiative represents a concrete bridge between talent and technology and a unique opportunity for innovators, and promotes the adoption of strategic technologies for the energy transition “.
