Eureka E20 Plus is the new proposal of the brand which, in recent times, has pushed on the accelerator with an interesting technological progress that has allowed it to recover points compared to its competitors. The range is that of robot vacuum cleaners with automatic dirt emptying station, one station interesting eddifferent from the usual because of its compact dimensionsand with no small practicality.
The advantages
The first great advantage of a product of this type is represented by zero maintenance costs. If it is true that, today, many automatic dirt emptying stations use bags with a capacity sufficient for several weeks of use, it is also true that – sooner or later – these will have to be replaced, and you have to buy them.
With Eureka E20 Plus, however, the dust collection tank is a 2 liter container which can be easily detached from the station and which can just as easily be emptied into any garbage bag. The handle and the tank lock button are very convenient: thanks to this selector, by setting the “padlock” to the closed position, you can easily use the handle to carry the entire dust collection/charging base to another floor of the house.
The other advantage is that of its size: the station is compact, can be placed in a corner, is less “heavy” to the eye and can also be easily hidden under some tall furniture (for example those in the bathroom).
How it vacuums (and how it washes)
Designed more for those looking for a robot vacuum cleaner, Eureka E20 Plus can also wash floors and does this operation via a integrated water tank which allows him to measure the level of liquid in the cloth positioned on the back.
The washing it does not apply the same pressure on the floor that we find on robots equipped with rollers or counter-rotating mops, and is therefore acceptable for those situations in which a daily cleaning because it is unable to remove stubborn encrustations that are a few weeks old. Perfect for making it work every day of the week, then leaving the user to do manual (and even) cleaning on the weekend.
All things considered, it is a good solution for those who usually manage to keep a floor that is not too dirty, but it is less suitable for those who have children or pets who often leave mud footprints when returning from the garden, or spill food residue on the ground. .
Side aspirationEureka E20 Plus presents itself well: the central brush collects dirt and does not have problems even with larger residues such as rice, large bread crumbs or similar. The suction power, on the other hand, is today in this range the same that some time ago we found on much more expensive robots (here they are 8,000 Pa). Unless you have a house invaded by pebbles and rubble, the type of dirt we find in our apartments is easily dealt with and vacuumed up.
Even with long hair there are no problemsand the brush has a good “anti-tangle” capacity, although the robot does not integrate more advanced functions such as blades that shred and cut them.
The combination of the rubber brush and the suction power of the tank with cyclonic technology, as can be seen from the images above, however, it allows you to leave the robot clean and to suck the hair from the internal tank to that of the station which can then be easily emptied.
How the app and software works
Nowadays every self-respecting robot is supported by a smartphone application, especially for modern ones that are capable of create a map of the house. Eureka E20 Plus has a Lidar turret positioned in the center which, in a few minutes, will be able to create the map recognizing the different rooms. Navigation then takes place both via Lidar and via front camera which is used to recognize objects.
From the point of view of recognition of obstaclesE20 Plus coped well with almost all the tests, only encountering difficulties with some thinner power cables. The double camera (which allows you to recognize obstacles with one three-dimensional computer vision) is effective in all lighting conditions.
The ultrasonic sensors for carpet recognition, however, have always performed their task very well, transmitting to the floor cleaning cloth the order of rise up (up to 10mm) to avoid wetting the fabrics.
The application by Eureka is available for smartphones Android and for iOS (iPhones). The process of adding the robot is guided and accessible to everyone: just turn on the device to immediately see it among those “nearby”. Once this step is completed, we proceed with the mapping, and the fact that the station is very light makes it really easy to manage houses that develop vertically. Indeed the app can keep in memory maps of multiple floors of the house while the sensors on the robot automatically block it when they sense stairs, so as not to risk damage.
Once the mapping has been completed and the name (it is not mandatory) has been given to the different rooms, you can choose to start the complete cleaning of the house, the cleaning of a specific room or the cleaning of a specific area within a room. Furthermore you can set “forbidden” areas where the robot must not passa useful function for avoiding – for example – the area with computer cables or the area with pets’ food and water bowls.
Conclusions
Eureka E20 Plus is positioned in a market segment that was poorly covered, and which now has an interesting alternative. To be chosen if you are looking for a really compact and transportable station, with the tank that avoid using bags purchased as replacements and for those who do not have particular washing needs.
The price is around €470, but a €44 discount is currently available on Amazon via coupon. Maybe still slightly high, but potentially interesting on promotional occasionsi (to keep an eye on during Black Friday or Prime Day) if it drops to around €400: it’s true that there are previous generation robots that wash better, but they are all much bulkier and tied to bags that have to be purchased and replaced.
Plus E20 Plus it can also be a solution for those looking for a second washing/vacuuming robot for the homeperhaps for the floor where the sleeping area is located which, not being usually so exposed to earth and mud, does not require a
washing as intense as the ground floor with entrance and kitchen for example. In this case, the robot is perfectly adequate for vacuuming, and mopping with a cloth is also suitable for parquet for daily cleaning.
