Farewell paid app to scan the documents. The Scanner function arrives directly on WhatsApp

Meta developers are testing a revolutionary function that will allow users of WhatsApp to scan a document and to acquire it in PDF format: all, unlike what is currently happening, without the need to support on third -party apps that presuppose the payment of the license or some more risk as regards privacy.

In fact, it will be possible to manage the entire operation directly from the application without having to close it, so the function of scan And the acquisition will be carried out automatically and locally, or not using any external server and limiting the risks of intrusions and violation of our personal information. The scan option will therefore be native and integrated on WhatsApp and will allow you to acquire a document simply by photographing it and saving it in PDF format, all offline and, as mentioned, without the need to download traditional scanning applications such as Camscanner and Adobe Scan.

According to what is anticipated by some beta testers who are testing this new feature, it will be possible to choose between two acquisition methods:

  • Manual: the most meticulous users will be able to control everything, from lighting up to the positioning of the document and the choice of quality;
  • Automatic: the option available to those who are in a hurry or a little desire to get lost in the settings. It will be the app to automatically identify the edges of the document and to shoot.

The next phase is that of the acquisition, for which the PDF file It is stored locally on the smartphone using Android’s native bees. Our file will benefit from the protection of end-to-end crytogrtophy and will remain saved only on the electronic device until the user decides to share it, without the need to rely on any external server, with all the risks that this can involve for our privacy.

The integration of this new functionality on WhatsApp risks being a serious blow for the main scanning apps, such as Camscanner, so

Payment of the license is required, or Adobe Scan. For the moment the feedbacks of those who are testing the option are very positive, and the belief is that Meta can soon make it available to all users.
