Oh well, who’ll see you again? Finally, a Huawei smartphone is back in our area, a company that would have become dominant in the sector even in the West if there had not been the well-known issues with Trump. Yet, in recent years, Huawei has started from scratch to get back on track, starting to propose itself again with smartwatches: the result is that in the global market smart watches are number one in shipments, while in China phones have also regained leadership. There is one last step to be taken, obviously the most difficult for obvious reasons (4G Lte models arrive here and access to Google services, despite having largely been resolved, is not yet perceived by users), but there is no doubt that it is only a matter of time. And therefore, to regain visibility, here is the Pura 80 series, proof of strength in design and performance. Because Huawei technology continues to be one step ahead, and we have tested it. Here are our impressions.
The features of Pura 80 Pro and 80 Ultra
The design is actually distinctive. Huawei’s smartphones also arrive in a refined Glazed Red finish in the Pro model – in addition to the Grazed Black and Glazed White shades – and introduce an aspect that focuses on a photographic sector that tells, even visually, its professional level. The distinctive sign is the “Forward Symbol”, a sunburst motif inspired by the details of high jewelery and luxury watches. And luxury is even more evident in the Ultra model, in which the lens is framed by a golden ring that reflects light and depth, to transform the device into something unique.
Having used the Pura 80 Pro, we can say that it is definitely a smartphone that does not go unnoticed. Its shape is obviously not that of a product that fits easily in your pocket, but the weight of 219 grams is still lower than other models of the same type. The photographic sector has an important depth, but on the other hand it provides shots that are the real added value. And that, in fact, makes the rest overshadow.
Pro photography
Because the point is precisely this: do you want a high-tech phone capable of taking top-quality photographs? If the answer is yes, this is the right wedding. Also because all this is easily understandable from the features: the 80 Pro model is equipped with a 50 megapixel main camera, a 40 ultra-wide angle camera, a periscopic telephoto lens with 4x zoom and 48 macro and a 1.5 Ultra Chrome sensor to enhance the colors and images in night shots; The Pura 80 Ultra instead has the 50 MP main sensor, a 50 MP double periscopic camera for the tele with 3.7x optical zoom and a 12.5MP for the ultra-tele with 9.4x optical zoom, a 40 ultra wide angle and the 1.5 Ultra Chrome sensor.
In short: we are talking about one-of-a-kind models, which adopt 1-inch Ultra Lighting Camera technology, capable of capturing brightness and details even in low-light environments. Furthermore, Ultra Chroma Camera ensures faithful and realistic colors, while the dual mode dual telephoto lens of the Pura 80 Ultra allows you to obtain cinematic shots with 3.7x and 10x magnifications. Added to this is the XMAGE system, which further improves photographic performance. In short, even we poor apprentice cinematographers suddenly feel like professionals, also thanks – as befits us – to our friendly artificial intelligence. Thus, thanks to a large telephoto sensor and advanced algorithms, the cameras guarantee sharp and detailed images even with high zooms and in low light conditions. In practice, it is at night that the Pura 80s enhance their characteristics even more. And the quality of the videos is ensured by 4K recording.
Smart features and user experience
Having said the above, the Pura 80 Series is not just about photographic performance. There are smart features to make everyday chores easier, and the Smart Controls button is designed to be customized for quick access to the flashlight, camera or AI lens. It’s not completely new, we know, but it’s good that it’s there. An advanced biometric recognition system and artificial intelligence-based noise cancellation for always clear calls complete the picture.
Autonomy and safety
Under the body there is a 5170 mAh battery, which means long-lasting autonomy. How much? Let’s say that with normal use we easily reached over a day. And in any case, to this is added a very fast charging system thanks to the 100W SuperCharge and (above all) the 80W Wireless SuperCharge.
Anyone who thinks that “but you can’t use Huawei smartphones here” should know that not only the AppGallery is available, but also an improved Aurora Store, i.e. the app store from which Google services can be downloaded without problems. Everything has been simplified in this series, so just one touch is enough to have the most used applications on your device. No privacy problems (if you are also worried about this), because the smartphone’s operating system works in line with the European GDPR directives.
Display and protection
The new 6.8-inch second generation Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass display (in both versions) returns clear and truly defined images: the adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz and frequency characteristics are at the top of the market. So the result is having a vision of the contents of the highest level, to which is added great overall resistance: up to 25 times more than previous models against falls and 16 times against scratches. So to ruin these smartphones, you really need to practice for a long time.
Prices, promotions and availability
The new Huawei smartphones are high-end, so the prices also adapt: Pura 80 Pro costs 1,099 euros. The 80 Ultra model is available for 1,499 euros
However, you can try to get it for something less with promotions: until November 25th a €100 discount coupon is active (code: AMKTCSPURA80), furthermore those who purchase on the Huawei Store will receive a free HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 (46 mm black or 41 mm white).
Finally, all customers who purchase a Pura 80 Pro will receive free HUAWEI Care+ for 12 months, including a free screen replacement and unlimited battery replacement if the capacity drops below 85%.
