If the war lasted so long, it is (also) the fault of the EU

"Special forces will cross the Ukrainian border"

The world, in particular Europe and the United States, has followed with awaiting and trepidation what happened yesterday in the White House. The war between Russia and Ukraine has lasted for too long and this is why it is absolutely necessary to get to a ceased the fire that precedes peace. It is clear that it is a war born from an aggression of a country, Russia, to another, Ukraine, but it is equally clear that the continuation of the war implies the continuation of the deaths, destruction, violence.

There is already talk of the reconstruction of Ukraine: buildings must be reconstructed, houses, industries, infrastructures, but alongside the material reconstruction, a moral reconstruction of men urges and a purification of the consciences that interrupt the unfortunately inevitable chain of vendette and rivalse. Before the reconstruction, however, it is necessary to get to peace and peace involves a job after unity, vision and communion of intent and efforts to be deep. For this reason I trust a unit at European level: if the war has broken out and lasting this for a long time this is a clear index of a flaw in the system of European foreign policy, perhaps too busy in the economic field, perhaps less in the political one, that is, of a formation of a real spirit and a real European culture. Likewise I hope that national politics will also be able to go beyond any vision and beyond any divisive logic and knows how to recognize the efforts made by the Prime Minister, Hon. Giorgia Meloni, and from the whole government to get to mediation, especially following the settlement of Donald Trump to the White House.

Not recognizing the role of Italy within international politics means betraying the spirit of peace and mediation that has always characterized the relationship between Italy and the rest of the world. It is necessary not to forget that Italian foreign policy has always wanted to treat, with everyone, in the belief that the negotiation, even with authoritarian regimes, could have brought advantages, not only economic, to the local populations, thus facilitating the operations of humanitarian organizations. It is not a question of recognizing a victory for the political opponent, it is a question of recognizing the victory of the spirit of peace.

Far from us the idea that we must recognize a success only if we were the protagonists and architects: the intellectual generosity that leads to recognizing the victory of the other is already an integral part of that success in itself. This explains the reason why I wish I wish political support to the work of the government: only the internal unit is a guarantee of the results in foreign policy. The divisive spirit is petrol thrown on the fire of the war and we want it to end, in Ukraine, Palestine and in any other part of the world where wars and violence are underway.

I hope that young people and their educators are also aware of the need for this spirit of unity and that the world of school also knows how to pay the absolute need for national and international unity. I really hope, and for this reason I ask that the appeals, at the same time myths and strong, of Pope Leo XIV are listened to by the leaders of the world. Blessed peaceful, quoniam Filii of the vocabuntur.
