Javier Milei speaks in Rome, at Palazzo Wedekind, headquarters of the newspaper ‘Time‘, to receive the international prize dedicated to the great American liberal economist, Milton Friedman. “I am an anarcho-capitalist, I despise the State and I am inside the State to destroy it,” said the Argentine president who defined himself as a “fundamentalist of the Austrian school”. His idea, which is that of the anarcho-capitalists, is to destroy the State through vast deregulation: to be precise, the ministry led by Federico Sturzenegger deregulates four laws a day, even if “Federico would like it to be 44 a day, not I’m exaggerating.”
“Argentina, once one of the richest countries in the world, has gone into crisis, the result of a delusional economic system. Until a libertarian president like me came along,” he added. “I thank you for this award and, given its name, it seems right to talk about the academic contribution of Friedmanwhich played a fundamental role on the path to freedom.”
The Argentine president has assured that by next year he is committed to reducing the deficit to zero. “It is a historic moment, next year there are elections, we are entering a new year with the commitment of zero deficit with zero emissions,” he explained, also claiming to have lowered the inflation rate “from 17,000% per year to 2 %”.
“The only way to cut hyperinflation is to cut the amount of money in circulation, fix the central bank balance sheet, we had a very high deficit,” added Milei. “We were one of the most unpresentable countries in the worldwe have now gained 70 places in terms of economic freedom. Let’s get rid of more state, give more freedom to people and we will create even more growth: I need 3,500 reforms and I will transform Argentina into one of the freest countries in the world. We will ensure that Argentina transforms into a power, becomes great again.”
