From locomotive to sick man of Europe, the Germany is going through a particularly delicate phase. The economic crisis is having an impact and there is still no light at the end of the tunnel. Overwhelmed by controversy and with his seat on the rocks, Olaf Scholz has decided to make a change that is very little in line with the history of the left. Like any right-wing government leader, he has opted for a crackdown on migrants. But not only that. The Chancellor has decided to try to play a leading role in foreign policy too, showing off a Peace plan for Ukraine and Russia.

Scholz’s government intends to extend and strengthen controls at all bordersAccording to German newspapers, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser wants increase rejections of people seeking protection who enter Germany illegally at the country’s borders. From Monday, controls will be put in place at all borders in order to further reduce irregular immigration through more effective border management.
But not only that. Scholz wants to transform Germany into the country of peace between Russia and Ukraine. In the storm over the various dossiers, the latest being the political one with the defeat in Thuringia and Saxony, the chancellor has played the Ukrainian card. As highlighted by Repubblica, the social democrat is working on a sort of “Minsk 3”which includes the hypothesis of cede pieces of Ukrainian territory to Moscow. “The time has come to discuss how to accelerate, to get out of a situation of war and arrive at peace,” Scholz said, promoting another peace conference but with the participation of Putin.
There Russiawith spokesman Dmitry Peskov, made it known that Russia does not reject any initiative for an end to hostilities, but that it is “necessary to understand what we are talking about”. A cautious opening, therefore. Zelenskywho spoke with Scholz on the sidelines of the defense ministers’ meeting at the Ramstein military base, focused on the implementation of the peace formula and preparation for the second peace summit: “Thank you for doing everything together to bring about a just peace.” Updates will follow.
