In the end Joe Biden has decided to withdraw from the race for the White House. “Serving as president is the greatest honor of my life,” he wrote in X.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as president. And while it was my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country to step down and focus solely on my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
And again: “Allow me to express my deepest gratitude to all those who worked so hard to get me re-elected. I want to thank the vice president Kamala Harris for being such a wonderful partner. And let me also express my deep appreciation for the American people and for the faith and trust they have placed in me.”
“I believe, today as always, that there is nothing America cannot do if we all do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America.”
