It was at the beginning of the 2000s. Google broke up in a few years every other search engine thanks to its portentous algorithm, indexed better and with criteria, and soon became the only search engine used by everyone. The basic operation, it goes without saying, was the same, but extremely more powerful and precise.
I am not telling the story of Google at random, the reason is what Google is becoming as a search engine. First you entered the site, whatever the site, a newspaper for example, and obviously the newspaper gained advertising, a simple and virtuous mechanism: I write, you read, Google takes you to me, I monetize the traffic. But now a huge change is being verified, perhaps you will have noticed: Google no longer takes you anywhere, he replies directly, with those summaries generated by artificial intelligence that are always at the top, and most users no longer need to click anywhere.
The function is called to the ovserviews, in essence it is a synthesized baby food: you are looking for one thing, Google takes it from the contents of the sites (in which the Ai enters safely), reappeared them, and you already need it. Result: users no longer enter the sites, the sites no longer make visits, and therefore they no longer make money, and the sites are economically fundamental for many companies, especially those that produce information, but not only. It is an economy that self -fulfils itself: the newspapers, blogs, forums, practical guides, everything that gave substance to the web is cannibalized, because Google live on what others produce while it takes away to those others the opportunity to produce it again. The publishers also speak of traffic drops of fifty percent, and it is not a detail, rather the difference between remaining standing or firing half editorial staff. Google, it goes without saying, tells you that it is not true, that the overall clicks do not fall and rather the quality increases (but if no more on a site, it will only increase the quality of the summary of the AI, for now).

In short: Google is no longer a search engine, it has become the final destination, the beginning and the end of navigation, while the web around it empties and loses voices, loses shades and loses that plurality that was the only reason why the Internet made sense.
However, my question is not whether it is more convenient to have the answer immediately (of course it is more comfortable, but even there it is always necessary to check the synthesis to have a serious answer), the question is: what will summarize Google, when there is nothing more to summarize?
