To make a summary on the state of technology seen at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the result is that less and less is seen and much more. In the sense that the space for devices have reduced to the detriment of infinite stands of companies, especially Chinese but also Arabic (in November the first edition of an MWC spin off will be held in Doha), which offer services and solutions based on omnipresent artificial intelligence. In short, more content than containers, and therefore here are 5 things that remain of the Spanish event.
Mom, I narrowed my smartphones
Not in the dimensions, of course, but in the number. The real product launches were two: those of Realme (the 14 Pro Series) and Xiaomi (the 15 series). Devices with photographic improvements, of different bands – the first media, high, the second – and certainly interesting also for design. Nothing, of course, absolutely new, but on the other hand the form is that (even if the Indian telco has reduced the thickness to 5.5mm). On the Huawei folding front (which in the end is the one that, despite the American call, has been able to create innovation to return to the crest of the wave) showed Mate XT, or the product that bends in three: beautiful, beautiful, but very expensive. That is 3500 euros at the current change which, if it ever arrives in Europe, can only rise. Then there were Oppo and Honor: the first showed a new tablet and the IA solution, the second launched Alfa Project a plan of 10 billion euros to develop artificial intelligence. But for now we have only seen the usual “permented a restaurant” and a video made by the algorithms on the future of humanity that seemed that of Gaza City with Trump in the deckchair. Very trash.

What is more traditional than the shape of a laptop? Here, in fact: beyond the quantum era at the doors (and you will see things never seen), the notebooks are always those are, difficult to find space for a design that is truly alternative. Above all Lenovo tries, who every year in Barcelona tries to introduce some concepts he is working on. In 2024 there was the PC with the transparent screen: beautiful, but frankly a little end in itself. This year, however, the proposed solutions are more interesting. The Thinkbook Flip PC AI which adds a screen to the device, which can be used in several ways: it can be raised by making the main one more vertical, or bending on the other side, making a person who is facing you participate in the work. Another novelty can be the Solar Yoga that solves the charge problems: in practice the upper lid is a solar panel that storing energy and makes them available for a practically perpetual duration. Without the need to pass more from the power outlet.
(Almost) artificial intelligence
As said to the MWC, the IA has now conquered most of the pavilions. And it presents it with hundreds of companies that is working with the new technology forces to make selection, also because some things are so technical that they are almost incomprehensible for us humans not nerd. But the speech is clear: if used well, the calculation of an electronic brain will really lead to a great revolution. On the contrary: it is already bringing it. The demonstration, for example, comes from the Japanese of NTT Data, who work across the board to improve our daily lives. The demonstration is from the projects inserted under the “Simphony” hat (the reference to symphony is not accidental, given that they can work with each other), and the example is what is being done in Rome, where already a part of the city’s water infrastructure is monitored 24 hours a day, with simulations made with the IA to understand how to avoid dispersions. The results, in a few months, is the 30% reduction in water losses, and multiply all this if it were already in operation in most Italian municipalities. Then there are also solutions to expand the network of electrical top -ups at more accessible costs by reconverting the service stations, or to support those who have to check the presence of goods in the stores without losing a day. But above all there is an even more revolutionary project: NTT Data has invested in a headquarters in the south of Italy, in Cosenza, in which he gave work to 400 people. And, in this case, the ingenuity is all human.
We, robot. But only that
Another theme of the MWC is robotics, and also in this field the applications are varied. Industrial, medical, commercial. Then you insist on thinking that the robots must be those of Blade Runner, and the results are almost comic. The star of the fair was Amira, a silicone bellona that can also embrace you, if you ever feel the need. And above all if you don’t seem to make yourself a little ridiculous. Less sensual, but equally extravagant, the one proposed in the Unitree stand, alongside the now traditional dog -shaped automation (without head and without tail, however). Just more than a meter would serve to supervise the rooms, but it is encountered by doing bye bye with your hand and also holds your hand. All for 16 thousand dollars: a good camera certainly less.
The next vision
From viewers to smart glasses, the step is now short. After the time when Metaverse and virtual reality seemed indispensable (asking, for competence, to Mark Zuckerberg), now more logically we have moved to the increased reality, with promising results. For example, with a Vision Pro of Apple we entered a dealership, in reality non -existent, to see a luxury car to buy: the comic moment was when, taken from the really real reality, you have the temptation to enter the car with the result of ending up on the ground, but in any case the effect is very interesting.
Above all because, with devices that now tend to be lighter and more practical, we will end up having many useful solutions in different contexts, playful and professional. In practice, a finally intelligent vision of the future is possible, to the next MWC the definitive sentence.
