It took three hours to get to the end of the first summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The two presidents remained closed in the room of the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage with two trusted councilors on the side. The lunch of the delegations has been postponed. Then both the Kremlin and the White House announced the end of the first face to face, confirming the long -awaited press conference.

The stage consists of two quite distant pulpits, the Russian and American flags behind each of the two presidents and a great writing stands at the center of the frame: “Pursuing Peace”, that is, pursuing peace, or the purpose that Donald Trump had gone for this historic meeting with the Zar.

On the flight that took him to Alaska, the US President clearly said that he does not intend to “replace” to Kiev in peace negotiations. Do you think its purpose is to “put the two contenders at the table”. However, Ukraine is in turmoil for the images that come from Anchorage, with the red carpet unrolled under the feet of the Russian leader, the vigorous handshake between the two, the applause of Trump, the smiles of Putin and finally the unusual journey together on the same limousine.

So what did the two powerful in the secret of the reserved meeting decided? What were said to the presence of Marco Rubio (secretary of American state), Steve Witkoff (Special envoy), Sergei Lavrov (Russian Foreign Minister) and Yuri Ushakov (councilor for the Cremlin foreign policy)?

Putin’s words

During the press conference, Putin made it known that the comparison was “constructive” and marked by “mutual respect”. The Russian leader is convinced that it made sense to meet in Alaska, that with Donald in power in 2022 this war would never have started, that four years since the last bilateral summit are too many and that the two country must return to cooperate leaving the recent misunderstandings behind. Putin explained that he and Trump reached a first “agreement” on Ukraine and warned Europe and Kiev not to “sabotage the progress” made today. “I hope today’s understanding opens the way for peace in Ukraine,” said Putin. That then returned to emphasize the importance of bilateral relationships: “We will always remember other examples of history when our countries defeated common enemies, helping each other – he said – I am sure that this legacy will help us build and feed with mutual benefits our bonds, even in the hardest conditions”.

Among the most important notes, there is the fact that Putin agrees in the need to end the war has agreed with Donald Trump on the need to guarantee Ukraine’s safety.

Trump’s words

However, Trump remains “very confident” to achieve a final agreement. At the end of the press conference, the two presidents did not answer the questions of journalists. And when Trump hoped that the meeting could repeat himself soon, the Russian leader officially invited him to Moscow.
