The episode was filmed by Kennedy’s wife, actress Cheryl Hines, and took place on the patio of the Florida home of Mehmet Oz, head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. “Cheryl is rooting for the removal of a pair of black racers (non-venomous black snakes) from Dr Oz’s patio,” Kennedy wrote alongside the video.

In the footage, Hines is heard repeatedly exclaiming, “Bobby, why?” as Kennedy attempts to grab the two black snakes. “They were having sex. So what were they supposed to be?” asks a voiceover, after Kennedy manages to catch them, holding the snakes up towards the camera with a smile. One of the snakes appears to have bitten Kennedy on the finger. “Oh my God – exclaims the alarmed wife -. You’re out of your mind.” “Are they biting?” is the question to Kennedy. “Yes,” he replied. “Honey, honey, let them go! Oh my God. Bobby, please!” adds Hines, as her husband smiles and brings the snakes closer to the camera.
“Black racers” are non-venomous snakes native to North and Central America, known for their speed of movement. It seems that the seventy-two-year-old Health Secretary has a particular passion for exotic animals. In 2012, daughter Kick said in an interview that, when she was a child, her father cut off the head of a whale that beached in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
