Far, far away peace. During the night between May 13 and 14, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine with over 670 combat drones and 56 missiles. The main target of the raid was the city of Kiev. “There is damage in 20 places. These are ordinary residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic and other purely civilian infrastructure. There is also destruction in the Kiev region; there were similar terrorist attacks against the energy sector in Kremenchuk and against port and residential facilities in Chornomorsk,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram.

The resumption of attacks

After a three-day truce to commemorate the end of the Second World War, Russian raids resumed already during the night between Monday and Tuesday and have intensified in the last few hours.

A building in Kiev’s Darnytskyi neighborhood was heavily hit and the number of injured in Kiev rose to 31. A child was also in hospital. The mayor announced that some residents were trapped in the rubble.

“These are certainly not the actions of those who believe that the war is coming to an end. Partners do not remain silent about this attack. And it is equally important to continue to support the defense of our skies. And it is in the interests of all those who aspire to peace to continue to put pressure on Russia,” Zelensky added.

The scandal

Zelensky is also grappling with internal problems. A Kiev court has called for preventive detention for Andriy Yermak, its former powerful right-hand man who is now accused of corruption. This was reported by local media, according to which the judges decided to place Yermak in preventive detention for 60 days or to pay a bail of 140 million hryvnia, equal to approximately 2.7 million euros.
