There is nothing more precious than the freedom to move around the world without fear. It is from this profound awareness that Safemate is born, the app conceived by an multidisciplinary team of an innovative Turin startup to return to each one the serenity to cross the streets of their city knowing that they are not alone.
Safemate is not a simple navigation app, but a new way of taking care of oneself and the community: a concrete response to the increasingly widespread need to feel safe while moving in urban spaces, informing users on situations such as physical or verbal violence on the street, catcalling, thefts, situations of discomfort or potential danger. Thanks to a network of updated reports in real time, the app offers not the shortest path to reach a given destination, but the safest, calculated based on the data generated by a community always attentive and participated. Any shared information and every area reported contribute to building a living and conscious urban map, in which places at risk emerge as common priorities and the forgotten roads return to be visible and protected.
On the interactive map, dangerous situations, suspicious presences, poorly enlightened areas or potentially critical areas appear. Each report becomes a gesture of mutual attention and a precious element to improve the quality of life of all. Each “Safetag” on an isolated or dangerous area, every “Safetag” on suspicious appearances or poorly illuminated areas, is a small seed of change: the information is analyzed to offer users concrete and updated indications on the path to choose from.
In fact, Safemate is based on an advanced and dynamic algorithm that combines the real -time reports of the community with a wide range of data on urban degradation, such as road conditions, lighting, presence of obstacles or risk situations. This approach
Data-Driven allows you to generate increasingly secure personalized paths, aware and adapted to the needs of users, reflecting the real evolutions of the territory.
The tags represent the beating heart of the system, because they translate the experiences of users into structured data. Users can tags an area with precise descriptions, choosing from predefined categories or adding personalized details.
This information allows the algorithm to build a dynamic urban security map. The active participation of the community is therefore crucial: every report, even of a single user, contributes to improving the precision of the algorithm, creating a virtuous circle in which the more people share, the more reliable data and optimized paths.
That’s why Safemate intertwines technology and empathy, individual safety and collective well -being. Any access, every report and every video call are acts of participation that build networks, responsibility and closeness. Choosing Safemate means returning to themselves and who is next to us the freedom to move without fear, helping to make our cities more careful and safe.
The app was conceived and developed
by Giulia Tortiooli and Giorgio Spadaro, both graduates in Engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin, and by Benedetto Cosentino, a graduate in computer science from the University of Padua. It is already available for free on iOS and Android.
