WhatsApp changes from April 11th: new age for access and opening to other platforms

The problem of security, one of the issues that are closest to the hearts of millions of users around the world, returns to the center of the interests of the developers of Whatsapp: an important innovation was recently announced which will be able to increase the level of privacy protection of users of the famous Meta instant messaging app. All of this will be included in a future update, currently still in the experimental phase.

The new functionality has in fact been implemented in the app through the most recent beta version of the software intended for devices equipped with an operating system Android, i.e. 2.24.8.4. Thanks to it, users will be able to block chats no longer exclusively on the main devices, but also on the secondary ones, thus managing to obtain greater security regarding their private conversations.

For the moment, WhatsApp allows you to block conversations only by entering a specific access code or with the use of “biometric authentication”: the problem is that this opportunity is granted exclusively to the main devices, a limit that puts the the privacy of users of the instant messaging app.

With the expansion of this possibility also to secondary devices there will undoubtedly be greater protections. After the latest update, conversations blocked on the main device will no longer be traceable in the list of normal conversations, but will instead be moved directly into the folder marked “Blocked Chats”, which will only be accessible by entering a PIN.

This is a dual protection system, given that the elimination of the possibility of viewing blocked chats on all connected devices reduces the risk of access by strangers and the introduction of the code further protects the profile owner's privacy.

As mentioned, this is an experimental phase which for now concerns electronic devices equipped with Android, but if the test obtains positive results, given that the security issue is one of those considered most important for users of the app, there will be a subsequent expansion also to the versions of WhatsApp for iOS, Mac, Windows and Web.
