Junior Track Cycling, gold (and record) in the quartet: six golds
There is another quartet behind the magical blue quartet of the track. There is another quartet that gives hope for the years to come and that, after the Olympics just concluded in Paris, clears the horizon for the Games that will be held in Los Angeles in 2028. Gold for Davide Stella, Ares Costa, Christian Fantini and Alessio Magagnotti (more Eros Sporzon, (in the first round) who literally crushed France in the final at the World Track Championships in Luoyang, China, further improving the world record, taking it from 3:53.562 in yesterday’s qualifying to 3:51.199. The number of Italian medals in the junior category thus rises to 6 with two world titles won: the first with the men’s quartet and then with the success of Fabio Del Medico in Keirin, the Tuscan from Pietrasanta triumphs in the final sprint ahead of the Japanese Kanata Takahashi and the Kazakh Daniyar Shayakhmetov. In addition to the two titles, two bronze medals are also won thanks to Linda Sanarini, Arianna Giordani, Irma Siri, Asia Sgravator (with Virginia Iaccarino running in the qualifications), who signed the victory in the final for third place in the women’s team pursuit, reaching the Chileans before the end of the 4000 meters. “These results, together with those achieved during the Jrs and U23 European Championships in Cottbus and, even before, at the World Championships of the category last year, are the confirmation that this management has a long-term project that concerns the Los Angeles Olympics – underlines the president of the Cycling Federation Cordiano Dagnoni-. Our thanks go to the grassroots clubs that with their work help these kids grow and mature, and to the technicians and staff of the National team who are able to make the most of them in all sectors, from endurance to sprint, both boys and girls”
