Snapchat looks far with augmented reality

Glasses and not viewers. Light and not bulky. Devices to enter a new dimension, for entertainment but not only. Snapchat, one of the most popular social networks in America and who is increasingly spaced by us, focuses on Smart Accessories to convey your offer, for years. And it is not only a question of social media, but also of channels born from agreements with companies that make the platform a real increased space to enrich reality. It is precisely on this technology, the augmented reality, that Snap – the parent company – wants to continue to build its future, with the announcement that took place at the URULY WORLD Expo 2025, of a new generation of Spectacles. That is, in fact, of glasses for augmented reality completely redesigned. Which, in the company’s intentions, want to be a device that aims to become the most advanced personal computer in the world, enclosed in a light frame with transparent lenses, and designed to integrate digital experiences in daily life. “The time has come for a new computer revolution -said Evan Spiegel, CEO and co -founder of Snap -. Artificial intelligence and augmented reality allow us now to create experiences made to measure for people”.

And in fact: the new Spectacles will be intelligent glasses with AR and artificial intelligence, capable of understanding the surrounding environment through machine learning, providing vocal and visual 3D assistance, enable multiplayer and social game sessions, offer a workstation that can be worn with navigation and streaming functions. In short, more than devices to play or spend time, and with a discreet design to increase portability and natural integration in everyday life. Particular that also in the previous generation had already made progress, for an objective declared to overcome the barrier between physical and digital reality, without screens or occupied hands.

All this also thanks to over 400,000 active developers and more than 4 million AR lenses already created: the fifth generation of Spectacles, which has so far been reserved for the “Developer”, has in fact allowed its experimentation, and will now be made available to the general public. With some apps ready for use:

Super Travel translates signs, menus and receipts, and converts currencies in real time.
Drum Kit guides the user on how to learn to play the battery.
Pool Assist suggests optimized billiard shots.
Cookmate offers recipes based on available ingredients.

WISP World offers a playful experience to explore the environment creatively.

In parallel to the glasses, then, Snap presented new updates to Snap OS, the operating system that rules the entire Spectacles ecosystem. The most significant innovations concern integration with artificial intelligence and the management of space experiences. For example, the integration with Google Gemini, the precise positioning of AR content in the three -dimensional space, the automatic vocal transcription that supports over 40 languages with high accuracy, the generation of dynamic 3D objects to be included in the lenses in real time. In addition, there are also experiences of enhancement of the territory through AR experiences related to the position and with tools designed for developers and cultural partners: with the new features you can control more pairs of Spectacles remotely and the instantaneous launch of lenses also in multiplayer mode, and with navigation AR immersive tours are created between monuments or museums. A concrete example comes from immersive verses, the US holographic theater already active in over 12 American cities. Service that will be extended by the end of the year.

Therefore a moving reality, a sign that the increased one is affirming itself as the best solution after the short parenthesis of the metvers that has drained money and ideas then ending a little in the oblivion.

So much so that Snap has already announced further news (the webxr in the integrated browser of the Spectacles and the integration with Niantic Spatial Vps to develop a shared map of the world actually augmented based on the AI) which give the idea of an expanding project. And that focuses on glasses as personal hubs capable of transforming what we see in real time, we listen and do.
