Students-Atlets, here is the plan of the State University of Milan
It would finally be to say. Contrary to other countries where “sport makes medium” as we use to say at school, in our part to use an understatement it can instead be said that for those who study and play the school and academic road has never been flattened. On the contrary. And so double effort to try to reconcile or study and sport, training and questions, races and exams. But in recent years something has fortunately changing, you want for the commitment of the federations you want for a ministerial sensitivity that has accepted the idea that almost always, those who do sports studies better and more than those who do not do it.
Now it’s up to the State University of Milan That in the session of April 15, he recorded the favorable opinion of the academic Senate at the establishment of the Dual Career program for students enrolled in the University. A step decided to recognize that the figure of the athlete student deserves a different treatment than that of other freshmen. And then the students who make competitive sports request extraordinary appeals if the session happens in the period of competitions. They will be able to count on personalized paths for the recovery of lessons, safeguarding the compulsory 100% frequency of exercises, workshops and traineeships, sometimes binding to access the exams. They will have the opportunity to modify the study plan based on sporting needs, rely on selected tutors and, at the end of the university course, they will be able to see the status of “student-athlete” recognized during the proclamation of the degree. A status maintained and conquered certainly, with great sacrifices, to date, in many schools and universities without any facilitation. Indeed, often with heavy penalties.
Athletes who attend the state road they will be able to carry on their sporting passion together with the university commitment. “I express the most high satisfaction for the favorable opinion of the Senate at the Statale of the Dual Career program for the athletes – commented the rector Marina Brambilla – in our experience, athletes and high -level athletes always combine, their sporting activity, an extraordinary commitment and rigor in the study and participation in training activities. It is therefore important that our university can support them in this path of conciliation of study and sport, enhancing the merit, discipline and determination that distinguish them “.
The status of student-athlete is attributed to all students regularly enrolled in the state road To a degree course (three -year or masterful), a specialization school, a doctorate of research or university master’s degree, who practice sports at high competitive levels, participating in competitions of particular national or international nature. In order to access the Dual Career program, the students must be regularly enrolled, have obtained the CFU university training credits that will be indicated in the announcement or the favorable opinion of the Scientific Committee for Masters, the Specialization Schools or the Doctoral Courses. In addition, they will have to be registered in a national association that is part of the national sports federations (FSN) or associated sports disciplines (DSA) recognized by the Coni and/or by the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), having been summoned for the preparation of the Olympics/summer or winter paralympics and having participated in national teams at least once in the previous 12 months. The applications will then be subject to the evaluation by a University Commission, which will set up a ranking subject to annual verification by the same commission, certified by the Student Secretariat.
