News at home Gmail. After the possibility of adding the company logo in emails (introduced in 2021) and the blue tick for verified brands (2023), this last function will also be available for Android and iOS.
Recognize the sender
As we well know, emails sent via Gmail feature an avatar, i.e. the profile image chosen by the sender (otherwise it remains a generic image). In 2021, it was decided to introduce support for it BIMI standards (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) in order to recognize a reliable source. In this way, in fact, it is possible to understand if the sender who sends the email is really who he says he is. Thanks to this, companies were able to use their brand logos within the messages sent.
In the area intended for the avatar, where the sender’s name and address are located, it is therefore possible to see the company logo. For this to happen, however, the message sent via email must pass the DMARC authentication check, which certifies that the domain has not been used illicitly by someone else. If theidentificationthe provider queries DNS for a matching BIMI record. If it is present, it is possible to use the logo in the email message. In order to display its logo, a company is essentially required to register it in a register.
The blue check
To this was then added the possibility of adding the blue tickas already happens in some social networks. In May 2023, Google introduced the blue tick feature to broaden its security standards. The blue check, in fact, guarantees the authenticity of a particular profile, as well as a Gmail account.
As we said, a company that wants to use its logo must enter it in a registry to authenticate with the BIMI. Once this is verified via VMC (Verified Mark Certificate), the famous blue check will appear next to the sender’s name. This way the recipients of the email are certain that they have received a message from an authenticated sender. To try again, simply move the cursor arrow to the blue tick. A message like this will appear: “The sender of this email has verified that they own (domain name) and the logo in their profile picture. Learn more.”
After being introduced on the web, this feature will also arrive on iOS and Android and will only concern registered trademarks.
As for those companies that do not have a registered trademark, there is now the Common Mark Certificates (CMC) which still allows them to make use of the BIMI and therefore use their logo in Gmail messages. However, there will be no blue check.
