Romania’s Defense Ministry announced that a Spanish fighter shot down a drone that had violated national airspace near the border with Ukraine and Moldova.

The interception of the drone – which entered from Moldova – was conducted by an F-18 on a NATO mission at 5:01 local time (02:01 GMT), the ministry specified in a note, adding that the debris fell in an uninhabited area of the Galati region, close to the Ukrainian border.

According to the spokesman for the Alliance’s military headquarters, Colonel Martin O’Donnell, the downed drone “appears to be Russian”. The colonel specified that the circumstances of the accident are still under investigation. In recent days, a drone that entered Latvian airspace was shot down by Italian Eurofighter fighters, but in this case – at least according to some independent media – it could be a drone of Ukrainian forces.
