The "Easter comet" is coming: how and when to observe it

It was discovered on March 29 but it was renamed “Easter comet” because on April 20, the day on which the Christian holiday of the resurrection of Jesus Christ occurs this year, its light will be so intense that perhaps it can also be seen in the naked eye. Although there are no certainties about this possibility, a binoculars will be enough to observe an astronomical phenomenon that can no longer be observed. In fact, the comet has a period of 1.4 million years.

When to raise your eyes to heaven

The real name of the Easter comet is C/2025 F2 (SWAN) (before it was Swan25f). The celestial body was in fact discovered by the SWAN instrument of the Solar Sonda SOHO. The comet, which is nothing more than an object composed of different types of ice, already shows a weak green tail in these days. To observe it, however, a small telescope is still necessary. Things will change at Easter: around April 20 the comet will gradually increase its brightness and can be observed more easily. The comet that day will emerge on the horizon at 4:00 in the north-east, finding himself only 10th under the Andromeda galaxy. The dawn will be around 6:20. So it will be necessary to be very fast to spot it. But, given the increase in brightness, just use binoculars to see it.

From 24-25 April, however, to spot the comet, it will be necessary to wait for the sunset. With the visibility that will increase with the passing of the days. In fact, on 1 May you will have more time since the sun will set around 20:05, while the comet will do the same around 22:00 in the north-west direction.
