The Italian contractor Alex Pineschi died in Ukraine: he had also gone to Kurdistan to fight ISIS

Another Italian citizen who went to Ukraine to fight against the Russian invasion reportedly died in combat. This would be Alex Pineschi, originally from La Spezia and a former soldier who had served in the 8th Alpine Regiment of the Italian army. His death, not confirmed by Italian institutional sources, would have occurred on May 23, 2026 while he was with his companions “from the drone unit in the Liman area”. He would have turned 43 on October 17.

The posts

Several posts on social media announced Pineschi’s death. Some people have written a message in his memory, remembering when they met and the passions they shared. The news of his death was also published on the “Memorial – international volunteers for Ukraine” page, followed by more than 20 thousand people. “Honor, glory and gratitude to our brother”, reads the message shared by the page followed by a photo of Pineschi.

The Italian citizen would have reached Ukraine in April 2026. Here he would have signed a contract with the 8th Special Operations Regiment, joining a unit called Team green badgers.

Who he was

Pineschi had already found himself on a battlefield. In 2014 he reached Iraqi Kurdistan to help the local population fight ISIS. He had also published a book to recount his experience: “Alex and his Peshmerga of Task Force Black, the anti-terrorism unit of the Kurdish Police, faced the Islamic militiamen in their strongholds of Kirkuk and Mosul, freeing hostages and capturing dangerous terrorists, until finally defeating them“, we read in the description of the volume.
