The Olympics becomes an 11,000-hour film
«The Paris Olympic Games are an important opportunity for us in the Federation Internationale Cinema e Television Sportifs. We have scheduled meetings and gatherings with the top officials of world sports in addition to the meeting of the Federation’s Executive Technical Committee. For me, it will be an opportunity to bring a message of greeting to all those who intend to promote and develop culture through images of sport among citizens of different nations and with different lifestyles”. Frank Ascani, Italian member of the IOC and president of Ficts, which has 130 member nations, is finalizing the last things in the Milanese headquarters of the Federation before leaving for the inauguration of the Games that will be held tomorrow in the French capital: the one that will follow in Paris will be his fifteenth Olympics. A long journey through the history of Olympic sports that has always brought young people to schools with images and films that draw from the formidable archive of the Platform of Sports Movies Tv which has over 30 thousand often unique documents. A journey into the culture of sport that Ficts began in Paris last month with a series of events and the project «Emotion of the Games on the screen – Passions olimpiques» in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Not only that. The Federation Internationale Cinema and Television is also present at the Olympic Collector House with the screening of the most exciting images of the Games and with a series of film productions on sport. «These events – explains Ascani – are part of the Cultural Olympiad Paris 2024 which includes exhibitions, educational programs and artistic initiatives with the contribution of the Commission for Culture and Olympic Heritage of which I am a member. Olympic culture contributes concretely to the affirmation of the sporting ideal and its values. Sport as a “universal heritage” must be promoted and preserved as a tool for affirming human dignity. Telling a sporting feat through images contributes to the diffusion of knowledge and wisdom». The Olympic broadcasting service for the Paris Games will produce 11 thousand hours of filmed content. A cinematographic and sports “heritage” that will find a place in its most evocative images in Milan from 5 to 9 November in the 42nd edition of the world review “Sport Movies Tv” organized by Ficts.
