Defeatist no, it doesn’t help, it’s a negative feeling they tell you, but what is the boundary between defeatism and realism? The news arrives of Trump wounded in Pennsylvania from a sniper, a crazy, unreal story, a shot from above a building from 150 meters, the shot that eats a piece of an ear, the one behind him hit squarely and killed, half a centimeterthe imperceptible tremor of the finger on the trigger of the precision rifle, one of those apparently “suitable for massacres”, unbelievable, unthinkable scenario: a world gone mad, on the brink of total war, winds of upheaval, upheavals of revolts, of incitements, America on the brink of hysteria. No, better not to think about it, better to believe in the providential breath of a god who, tired of conflicts, of spontaneous combustions, spares us for the moment the biggest, perhaps definitive, outbreak. But read the news and, as a defeatist who knows his chickens, you can’t help but wonder what the embittered and stupid left will say: Did Trump shoot himself? Did someone pay? Did he ask for it, did he deserve it as a divisive and hate monger? Not even ten minutes go by and on X you can find all this and more, every crazy, insane or indecent hypothesis. Could it be that reality is defeatist, that cynicism has now the last expense of reason?
On the left, especially ours, the only concern is to divert suspicion, no matter if at the cost of revealing oneself to be stupid or ignoble; to mystify, without managing to hide the true feelings from the exaltation for the blood-stained tycoon to regret for that missed bull’s eye. Then comes the anger for the proud reaction, but dictated by desperation and shock: the seventy-eight year old billionaire who remains standing, his face a mask of blood, raises his fist, growls something (you see how divisive he is, you see how much of an asshole he is that he’s not even dead?) and “give me my shoes, where are my shoes?” to the security guards who, in order to protect him, overwhelmed him and crushed him to the ground.

- The shots, the blood, the screams of terror: the videos of the attack on Trump
A scene from a movie, but the knowledge that it is all true makes it chilling, takes away every other suggestion. Not for the Italian left, schizophrenic between laughter and regret, terrified by one and only one perspective: now that one wins for surenow it won’t even be necessary to accuse him of genocide. And down with curses from the curve and the tavern for that half centimeter too far from the ear.
But what should we do? What can we do now, in the face of this missed tragedy which for us is a completed tragedy? Several newspapers, all those of the progressive and Schleinian left, of the global agenda, immediately launch themselves, like a flock of bombers, with unsuspecting but very clear emphasis, on the indiscretion of the Washington Post, the alleged republican origin of the sniper, with every evidence even physiognomic a madman: but then what does it have to do with it, what does it mean if a twenty-year-old mad criminal thinks as he thinks and perhaps in his drugged delirium considers Trump, who knows for what sick vortices, someone to be eliminated? That non-democrats are all crazy murderers? That they kill each other? Or that, as invariably flows from the recesses of the idiotic left, that this is the consequence of easy weapons, that we must abolish weapons, the Nemesis of the warmongering and gun-making right?
In defeatist nihilism one might perhaps ask, even just to play at fantasy politics, How much does a psychopathic sniper cost?what his fee might be to change his mind. But nobody really wants to know, especially since he can’t answer, they knocked him down. Then there will be time for reconstructions, hypotheses, conspiracy theories and questions destined to remain unanswered, for example how a crazy boy managed to settle peacefully in a building just 150 meters away from his target. Of course, those few millimeters of difference, that world a few millimeters away from chaos, are scary, they authorize the wildest suspicions and there is no doubt that we will not miss anything, that we will hear all sorts of things.
But, before the suspicions, a certainty that is then a confirmation: what is beyond disarray is a left, particularly our own puttanesca left, that has definitively renounced the elementary categories of common sense, prudence, decency, instinctive solidarity. At least Biden is more human: as soon as he heard the news, he asked to speak to President Kennedy and made sure that Lee Oswald had been eliminated.
