What year will it be for our unfortunate continent? Without bothering stars and astrologers, a new international configuration seems to be taking shape, and while there is a shape it is no small thing. If it is true that wars always reach their peak before ending, on the Russian-Ukrainian front that peak seems (we repeat, it seems…) to have been reached with the unfortunate green light for Ukraine to use deep weapons against Russia.
Having escaped, for the moment, the danger of a Russian response (only escaped thanks to the Russian realism that sometimes emerges from violence), the installation of the new American administration opens up new and apparently bright scenarios. It accompanies Russian realism Trumpian realismfree from the obscene trappings of wokism and pacifist nonsense that should never be applied to foreign policy; on both fronts there is a desire to end the most dangerous war for the fate of the world since the Cuban crisis.
The ineffable Zelenskyfaced with the less accommodating occupant of the White House, has abandoned the characteristics of a little postmodern hero that have struck a chord with many of our acute European commentators and seems not to be too upset by the peace conditions imposed by Moscow (the same ones that if followed would have avoided the outbreak of war…).
At this point the scenario is twofold: the war can end with an even more violent and devastating climax or end with the parties at stake becoming aware that no one can really win, therefore the perfect moment to negotiate. America has achieved its strategic objective viz remove Europe from the orbit of Russian gas imposing his own, very expensive, which is now preparing to travel along the new highly coveted Arctic route. With this they cut off the legs, as had been desired for some time, of German industry in an anti-Chinese function, perhaps.
The Russians have demonstrated to the world that any open challenge to their integrity will be repaid in blood. AND Ukrainians will finally be able to enter Europethose few remaining, free to move and abandon their destroyed country. May the new year begin better than it ended!
