Denise Pipitone is 4 years old when, on 1 September 2004 at 11:45, he disappears in Mazara del Vallo while playing in front of the house gate. The grandmother is in the kitchen, her aunt sees her from the window, the cousin returns: from that moment, no useful trace. The investigations open immediately and also focus on the family. In the following days, investigators discover that the husband of Piera Maggio, Toni Pipitone, is not Denise’s biological father. The real father is Pietro Pulizzi, at the time married to Anna Corona. From that marriage Jessica Pulizzi, Denise’s half -sister, was born. According to the accusation, Jessica and the mother would have seen the cause of the end of their family in Piera Maggio and Denise. The hypothesized motive was jealousy and grudge. But in the processes the suspicions have never translated into convictions: Jessica was definitively acquitted and Anna Corona has never been indicted. For Italian justice the two women are innocent. The investigative journalist Alessandro Politi analyzed the case by putting all the pieces in order: reconstructions, errors, alternative tracks and testimonies that in twenty years have fueled more questions than answers. One question, however, remains identical since 2004: where is Denise Pipitone? And who took it away, in broad daylight, a few steps from home?
