The decisions of Germany regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine continues to be discussed. After the scandal of the interceptions of senior German officers on Taurus missiles, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided to defend his choice not to supply Kiev with long-range missiles.
This choice sparked obvious controversy, as reported byAssociated Press. The centre-right opposition bloc but also a part of the government coalition are against Scholz he turns up his nose. “We trust Ukraine – she said – for this reason Germany is the largest European arms supplier to Kiev”. But he does not intend to involve Germany directly in the conflict. The Chancellor had some hesitations both at the beginning of the conflict, when there was talk of cutting Russian gas supplies; and a year ago, when he hesitated before sending Leopard 2 tanks to Zelensky.
Grand Brittany and the France, have stated that they intend to send long-range missiles, Scalp and Storm Shadow, to Ukraine. Germany, however, does not. “Given the importance of not losing control over the objectives – explained Scholz – this weapon could not be used without the deployment of German soldiers”. And this is “a line that I as chancellor do not want to cross”.
