"We will bomb without mercy": Trump launches new offensives on Iran (which attacks US bases)

“If Iran doesn’t sign an agreement, we will bomb it mercilessly tomorrow night.” The offensive on Iran, the second in a row, ends with a new threat from Trump. An attack which, for the president of the United States, should be read as a response to the shooting down of the Apache helicopter by an Iranian drone. Not the resumption of a broad war.

“Tehran shot down one of our Apache helicopters”: the United States bombs Iran (which responds)

The attacks

US Central Command forces have launched attacks “against Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communications systems and air defense sites across the country”, official army accounts read. Precision munitions were fired at Iranian targets that posed “a threat to U.S. forces and international commercial vessels transiting regional waters.” There is talk of around 49 Tomahawks, a subsonic cruise missile, against various targets in addition to jet bombing.

Trump is annoyed by the slow pace of the talks: “The deal is fully negotiated, the Iranians just have to sign it, but they delay because they know it’s significant, because it completely prohibits having a nuclear weapon, whereas the one Barack Obama reached opened the way to a nuclear weapon,” he told Fox news.

The Iranian response

The Pasdaran claim the success of their reprisals: “We targeted the Al-Azraq air base and command center in Jordan, where important US facilities are located, as well as the headquarters where the American F-35, F-15 and F-16 are stationed, with 12 ballistic missiles, and we destroyed the facilities and a large number of fighters”, they report in a statement.

“The new attacks were launched to punish the US military, responsible for killing children, for attacking a manufacturing complex, an entertainment center and a military fortress near Karaj and Nazarabad, as well as a local Revolutionary Guards base in Pishva,” they said.

Neighboring countries

But the Iranian counteroffensive would also have involved the Gulf countries and Israel. The Pasdaran claim to have attacked with drones and missiles 18 “important” sites linked to the US army in the Ali Al-Salem and Ahmed Al-Jaber bases in Kuwait, and in the Sheikh Isa air base in Bahrain.

In the meantime, the Israeli army has issued an alert to the population: “The population is invited to take refuge in protected areas.” The IDF has in fact detected rocket launches from Lebanon “directed towards various communities in northern Israel”. In another statement, Israeli forces underlined that they had identified two rockets that fell in areas of southern Lebanon where “Israeli soldiers operate”.
