Increasing the level of customization of the program is one of the main objectives of the most recent updates that the development team of WhatsApp is making it available to its beta testers: one of the most recent ones released online by those who have had the opportunity to download version 2.24.24.10 from the Google Play Store also fits into this trend.
In fact, within the software there is an option that allows the user to manage the data more clearly group notificationsand thus avoid those annoying overloads of alerts that often clog up the cell phone especially when the participants are very numerous. Thanks to a screenshot made available by the experts at WaBetaInfo you can appreciate the new screen in which the Group Notifications section appears, to which it is possible to associate the sound alert: at first glance you can understand the expansion of the range of choices available to users.
Users of the famous instant messaging app have three options main ones to choose from. A first option, obviously, is the one that involves silencing all types of notifications, and is generally used when you don’t want to be disturbed. If, however, you are not in a situation of this type and you want to leave group chat notifications open, you can decide to act in two different ways. The first is the one that does not involve the use of any filter, so you will continue to receive every alert from the conversations you are participating in, in case you do not want to miss any updates.
The second, which represents the real new element, is a middle ground between the other two options, and allows the user to be notified only for those messages that are marked as “Highlighted”, and which therefore include mentions, responses or other direct interactions. With this option, especially in large and very active groups, the user is offered a way to avoid the overload of notifications while still keeping the most important interactions accessible.
We thus try to solve the problem of confusion that reigns over the silencing of group chats, since even in this case it is actually possible to receive notifications for some types of interactions, such as direct replies or mentions. With the news presented in the Beta, WhatsApp intends to improve the level of control over alerts by its users.
It is worth underlining that with this new option, in large groups the notifications for standard messages are deactivated by default and only those for “Highlighted” messages remain active. As regards the numerically less relevant groups, notifications for all messages remain the default ones, but the user can choose to change this setting at any time.
