Thousands of users have reported a malfunction in the world's most used messaging app, Whatsappwith reports that have multiplied since 8pm as reported on the Downdetector website but also on social media where the hashtag is chased #WhatsAppDown. What happened? According to initial information, in 55% of cases there were problems sending messages, in 36% of cases the connection to the server and the remaining part (a minority) problems in the app. At about 9pm reports decreased with the app starting to work properly.
Social reactions
Especially on Twitter there was a lot of buzz from those who were worried and believed it was a personal problem but it wasn't the case: numerous users reported the problem, many others wrote the time it stopped working, others they still asked what the problems might have been. Up to this moment Meta has not yet released any official note on the incident which seems to be of very far-reaching significance and not only for the Italian borders: according to the Reuters almost one hundred thousand reports of malfunction arrived from Brazil and Great Britain in a short time, over 30 thousand from India to indicate and underline the global problem.
The WhatsApp note
From the official profile on X, WhatsApp has made it known that it is aware of the global problem. “We are working to get things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible.”
We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we're working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible

What happened with Facebook and Instagram
In the same way, Meta's other social network, Facebook, is also proceeding slowly with real blocks always starting from 8pm Italian time: as can be seen on the Downdetector graph, in 64% of cases it would be a question of app malfunctions, in 28% problems accessing the profile (with user and password) and in 8% of cases problems with the profile. For both WhatsApp and Facebook, the map with the most critical areas on the national territory have highlighted a red dot especially on large cities, from north to south. The same thing also happened to Instagram with the peak of reports between 8pm and 8.45pm and then slowly decreasing: in this case, 59% of users reported loading problems, 29% with the app and 12% with the server connection.
As recently as html” data-ga4-click-event-target=”internal”>a couple of weeks ago, malfunctions had only occurred at Faceook and Instagram, which followed other interruptions that had occurred 14 days earlier: especially these two social networks, now almost cyclically, they suffer various types of problems with disruptions that last on average one or two hours before being correctly restored.
