A bug of WhatsApp reported for devices equipped with Android has recently returned to the center of attention on social media, sparking protests from users: it is a malfunction that emerges during telephone conversations, therefore rather frustrating for those who are afflicted by it.
According to what was reported by TechIssuesTodayduring calls outgoing made via the Meta instant messaging app, the microphone suddenly turns off if the user needs to exit the program or when the screen goes dark. These are not isolated incidents or problems that affect a particular brand of mobile phone, since they have been reported for Samsung, Motorola or Google, to name just a few examples of phones equipped with Android.
In reality, the first reports of the bug date back to the times of Android 14demonstrating the fact that this is a malfunction that has never been completely resolved: identical cases have also been recorded in Android 15 systems, both in the beta and final versions. And there is no doubt about this, given that the symptoms are always the same: in the middle of a phone call, if the user even just needs to check a document and is therefore forced to exit the app, on the other on the other end of the phone the interlocutor no longer hears anything due to the microphone being muted. For those who use WhatsApp for work, therefore, this is not a minor problem, given that it can often happen that you have to check something during a conversation.
The initial hope of users was to leave the bug behind them with the update to Android 15, but not only has the situation not been resolved but in some cases the problems have even worsened, according to the testimonies available online. Any attempt to remedy the situation is useless, from reinstalling WhatsApp to changing permissions: the microphone it suddenly deactivates, unless you decide to stay inside the application during phone calls, avoiding checking notifications or opening other programs.
The list of affected devices, as mentioned, is extensive, ranging from the Pixel 6, 7, 8, 9, up to the Samsung Galaxy S24 and the Moto Edge series, but while for incoming calls there is no problem, the bug manifests itself in the outgoing ones. Despite protests and reports, neither Google nor WhatsApp have provided a permanent solution.
Some have tried to go back to old versions of the app, many have even chosen to switch to other programs due to frustration. For now the only suggestion is to abandon the multitasking during outgoing calls, waiting for someone to finally decide to unblock the situation.
