Three dead, including two children, and four seriously injured. This is the outcome of the accident that occurred in the early afternoon in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, in the Netherlands, where a car hit a group of children on bicycles.
According to initial reconstructions, the accident occurred around 12.30pm on the N290, a two-lane road between Terhole and Vogelwaarde, not far from Hulst. A car apparently went off the road on a bend, crashing into a group of 14 children who were cycling along the cycle path. The minors were engaged in a school camp and were accompanied by two adults.
The four seriously injured children were rushed to the University Hospital of Ghent, the University Hospital of Antwerp and the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam.
The police said that one person was arrested, but his possible role in the accident is still being investigated.
