Former Prince Andrew under investigation for alleged sexual crimes in the royal residence

Prince Andrew, younger brother of King Charles III and third son of Queen Elizabeth, is under investigation for sexual crimes linked to the Epstein case. The news was launched by the foreign press today, May 22nd.

Last February, on his birthday, he was arrested by the police on charges of having shared confidential information with the financier in his former role as a commercial emissary of the London government. Now, however, the investigation has expanded.

Alleged sexual crimes in the royal residence

The statement of a woman who spoke of abuse suffered by the former Prince Andrew would have been decisive. They would have taken place in the royal residence of Windsor. However, the woman did not file a formal complaint.

Deputy Police Chief Oliver Wright spoke of an investigation that promises to be “necessarily extremely thorough and will take time.” A dedicated team is working on the case, made up of “specialist investigators”, with experience in serious sexual assaults and financial experts.

At the moment Andrea, who has always denied any wrongdoing, remains formally under investigation for the hypothesis of misconduct in a public office. However, this is a very broad crime hypothesis, which can also include sexual crimes.

“There are several aspects of the alleged misconduct that the investigation is examining. We are therefore speaking to a number of witnesses,” said Wright, who did not mention the former prince by name, as is customary in Britain.
Wright said police had received “a significant amount of information” from the public and other sources and that the investigation would be incredibly complex.

The appeal

“With regards to victims and survivors of Epstein, we hope that anyone with relevant information will come forward and I want to emphasize that our door is open whenever a victim or survivor is ready to cooperate with us. We are ready to welcome you at any time,” Wright said.

Andrea, “black sheep” of the royal family

The former Prince Andrew has long been “dumped” by the royal family. In October 2025, Buckingham Palace announced that it would lose its title and at the same time leave the Royal Lodge residence. He had already renounced the title of Duke of York, driven by family pressure. King Charles himself had further distanced himself from him by making it known that he was ready to collaborate with the police investigations if requested.
