Google It is working hard to make available to all users with devices equipped with Android a feature dedicated to security, and specifically to the protection of personal data, in the event of theft.

Renamed “Inactivity Reboot“, This new function should have been available to everyone already starting from the 25.14 version of the Google Play Services, as announced in advance by the developers at the beginning of April on the occasion of the Teardown of version 25.11.34. It will be necessary to wait a little more for the release, even if it is already possible to understand in detail how this new protection system will work.

As can be seen from the name with which it was renamed, the feature provides for the automatic restart of the smartphone after a given period of inactivity, identified by Google in 72 hourstherefore after 3 days. The development team of the Mountain View giant, therefore, took inspiration directly from Apple’s rivals, since the same function was made available to users starting from iOS 18 to ensure further protection for iPhones in case of theft, contrasting fraudulent unlock attempts.

After the established time, the Android device will restart returning to the state “Before First Unlock“, a much more difficult condition to violate for any attackers that aim to access the personal data saved on the device. The only way to be able to do it will in fact be to insert the password or the pin, given that the system will not recognize authentication through the biometric parameters.

In anticipating that it will be necessary to wait again to have the feature available, Google wanted to clarify that the forced restart will not be set up with default but that the user will choose whether or not to activate the in -rebooting option on their smartphone. In fact, the case of devices can happen that for the use that is made of them must remain on or in stand-by for long periods of time, so a forced restart of this kind could be counterproductive.

The

Team of development of the Mountain View giant is now committed to concluding the realization of the UI to manage the new function, so it will still be necessary to wait before you can finally have it at your disposal.
