How Much for Gaza?
In targeting Israeli Premier Netanyahu, the president of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, made an estimate of the cost of reconstruction in the Gaza strip: 100 billion dollars. Exaggerated? It may be, but it shouldn’t be much from reality. The World Bank has made an estimate, for the damage only to 18.5 billion. According to the UN only to remove 50 million tons of rubble, using over 100 full -time trucks, more than 15 years of work would be needed.
But speaking of money, how many would put on Trump on the dish to buy Gaza, as he said he wanted to talk to journalists aboard the Air Force One? It is not known. The president only said he was determined to “buy and own Gaza“, However, allowing other states of the Middle East to reconstruct some sections under American supervision.
The US president starts from a fact: the Gaza strip is a construction site full of rubble and, in any case you think, the need is to reconstruct. But to do what? Trump’s idea is a huge “real estate site”, a mega resort overlooking the Mediterranean where people from all over the world can be lived. And the Palestinians? They will be assured of a “safe and harmonious” life, but elsewhere. It is not known where, even if Trump admits that it would be better that they remained in the region, with Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia’s economic support (and not only).
We do not enter into the merits of the idea of Trump. We continue to think that the best solution is “two peoples, two states”. Obviously it is difficult, very difficult to make.
