Scheduled calls on WhatsApp. Zoom challenge: how they work

WhatsApp is pushing scheduled calls, a new feature launched in August. In addition to calling friends and groups in real time, you can now also plan the meeting, effectively challenging services such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, which have made their fortune in remote meetings, especially during Covid.

The new function is integrated into the main window, in the calls menu: by tapping the + button and selecting the “schedule a call” option, users can define every aspect of the virtual event, from specifying the type of call (voice or video), to assigning a title and a description to clarify its purpose, and indicating the start and end time. The function is open to both individual guests and entire groups, with all participants receiving an invitation directly in chat.

A notification will alert participants exactly when the conversation is about to begin. For organisers, the calls menu transforms into a real management centre, allowing all scheduled calls and related details to be consulted at any time.
