Trump wants to monetize millions of dollars with his ATM posts

How much is it worth receiving a post from Donald Trump before other investors? Potentially up to $100,000 a month. Trump Media & Technology Group, the company that controls Truth Social, announced the launch of Truth API, a paid service aimed primarily at banks, hedge funds, financial companies and high-frequency trading operators.

The new channel will be operational from August 1, 2026 and will offer “authorized and real-time” access to posts published by the most influential accounts on the platform. Trump Media claims to have already found its first customers, but without revealing their names. According to Reuters, the company would have offered a subscription of 100 thousand dollars per month, which can be reduced to 60 thousand with a contractual commitment of three years.

Because a few milliseconds can be worth millions

An API, acronym for Application programming interface, is a system that allows programs and algorithms to automatically receive content published on a platform. In the case of Truth Social, the stream will be active 24 hours a day, will include an archive of posts from 2022 and will deliver new messages to customers in a few milliseconds, without having to manually update the social network or wait for a normal notification.

The service will initially cover ten accounts considered particularly influential. The company did not explicitly include the president’s name in the press release, but the true commercial value of the product appears evident. Donald Trump in fact uses Truth Social as one of his main communication channels and often publishes announcements on tariffs, wars, trade relations and decisions of his administration there, before elsewhere.

“Markets are already moving based on posts on Truth Social today,” said interim CEO Kevin McGurn. The company therefore aims to transform the speed of information into a stable and high-margin source of revenue.

For algorithmic trading companies, even an advantage of a few milliseconds can be decisive. Software can automatically analyze the words used by the president, interpret their possible effect on oil, stocks, currencies or government bonds and buy or sell before the rest of the market has had time to react.

A precedent shows how important speed can be. On April 9, 2025, Wall Street indices abruptly changed direction after Trump announced on Truth Social a 90-day suspension of many of the new tariffs. Whoever received and interpreted the message first could have obtained a significant advantage over other investors.

The president profits from the president’s messages

It is precisely here that the political and ethical problem emerges. Truth Social is not just any social network: it has, in fact, become one of the places where the President of the United States communicates decisions capable of changing public policies and moving billions of dollars on the markets.

At the same time, Donald Trump maintains a strong economic interest in the company that operates the platform. The Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust owns 114.75 million shares of Trump Media, or about 41% of the stock. Donald Trump is the founder and sole beneficiary of the trust, while his son Donald Trump Jr. is the trustee and has voting and investment power over the shares.

In other words, a company from which the president can derive an economic benefit will sell the richest investors privileged, high-speed access to the president’s communications.

The criticisms were not long in coming. Transparency organizations claim that the operation allows the Trump family to monetize information related to the exercise of the presidency. Establishing whether there is also a violation of the law is more complicated: according to experts consulted by Reuters, the existing rules do not appear to have been designed for a case in which hundreds of operators pay to receive public statements from a president more quickly.

A new source of revenue for a loss-making company

Truth API also represents Trump Media’s attempt to find a more profitable business than the traditional social networking business. In the first quarter of 2026 the group recorded just $900,000 in revenue and a net loss of $405.9 million.

The company specifies, however, that much of the red derives from accounting and non-monetary components: 368.7 million are mainly linked to unrealized losses on cryptocurrencies, digital assets and shareholdings. Trump Media still had about $2.1 billion in financial assets and reported positive operating cash flow of $17.9 million.

Born after Trump’s exclusion from the main platforms following the assault on Congress on January 6, 2021, Truth Social was actually launched in February 2022. Since then the president has been readmitted to both Facebook and X, but continues to reserve many of the most important interventions for his own social network.

Now those messages won’t just be political communications. They will also become a financial product: those who can afford it will pay to receive them faster, while the company controlled by the presidential family trust will collect the subscriptions.
