Turin prepares to spread the long tablecloth of the summer and does it with very good, “summer and light” version of the now rooted gastronomic event which, between October and November, has accustomed the audience to very high profile banquets. This time, however, from 17 to 21 June, the menu becomes leaner but no less ambitious: over 25 events, more than 50 cooks, in a schedule that mixes starred chefs, historical taverns, international contaminations and the indispensable rite of the Piola. All this, needless to say, in the full ferment that precedes the arrival in the city of World’s 50 best restorents, for the first time in Italy for the ceremony that will take place on June 19th.
Behind the direction of the event remain the creators of all time: Stefano Cavallito, Luca Iacaccarino and Matteo Baronetto, with the blessing of the Municipality, the Chamber of Commerce and the support of partners such as Acqua Panna & S. Pellegrino and the Alta Langa consortium. Objective: combine high cuisine and popular spirit, with the usual formula of mixing the plans, cutting the labels and, above all, entertain. Eat well, but without taking too seriously.
Five main formats, designed to cross Turin in Morsi, Brindisi and Laughter. It starts on June 17 with the Vertical Dinner with Flashback Habitat, a former Brefotrofio into a hill transformed into artistic refuge. Six chefs tell Italy from south to north through a “vertical” path in six stages, from the garden to the terrace. Among the names, Giuseppe Iannotti, Ugo Alciati, Paolo Gori, Luciano Monosilio, Massimiliano Prete and Giuseppe Rambaldi. It starts from 80 euros, and rises.
The next day, June 18, space for the “Melting Pot” edition of Tasting, the standing Dinner that this time puts in the center ten international cooks who have chosen Italy as a gastronomic homeland by adoption. Among others, Matias Perdomo, Roy Caceres, Giulia Liu, Jessica Rosval and Vinod Sookar: a real babel of taste, served to the public between wine, cocktails and good music. Here too, you enter starting from 80 euros.
From 17 to 20 June the pop up dinners arrive, where trattorias and fine dining meet four hands. A little tavern, a little haute cooks, always with the desire to amaze. Among the most curious crossings: ancient evenings that hosts the Calandre (yes, those three Michelin stars of Rubano), Baronetto who cooks from Lao, and snap of the Costardi Bros who opens the doors to Dennis Panzeri of Piola Ceretto.
But the true queen of the Turin table remains her, the Piola. For this reason, Piolissima, from 17 to 21 June, returns to celebrate the truest side of Piedmontese cuisine, with 17 taverns that offer popular dinners based on greenery, barbera of the house, appetizers served without haste and, if okay, even a couple of bowls. Fixed price, 30 euros. And a discreet dose of Sabaudo spirit.
Closing in beauty on June 20 with Bistromania, the big bistrot party hosted by Snodo alle Ogr. Twelve of the most brilliant Torinese signs of the new generation show off in an outdoor evening with DJ sets and after parties. On stage, among others, Scannabue, rocket, jump of the excitement, silos, Buutta, food context. Democratic entrance: 10 euros with chalice included.
If the autumn version of very good has long been the great dinner of the gastronomic celebrations, the summer one is a well served round of appetizers, in which Turin tells herself lightly, pride and desire to contaminate itself. A city that discovered more and more cosmopolitan even at the table, without forgetting its roots. And where, with a little luck, you can still finish the evening with a plate of anchovies and a glass of red, without having to consult the wine list.
Very good Summer Edition: from 17 to 21 June, in Turin.
