Selle Italia and Vittoria shoes: “wedding” between history and future
Selle Italia acquires Vittoria Cycling Shoes. The Biella brand, which has been developing and producing cycling shoes for almost fifty years, worn by the big names in cycling, such as Marco Pantani, joins the Asolo group which already owns Selle San Marco and Idmatch with shoe collections that range from cycling to road to triathlon, from mountain biking to the gravel world, passing through a line dedicated to lovers of new vintage. “The Italian economic fabric of cycling has grown thanks to companies which, from the intuition of their founder, have worked on the continuous technological development of the product and a stylistic imprinting typical of Made in Italy – he explains Giuseppe Bigolin, president of the Selle Italia group – and this story of values and hard work unites our companies: Vittoria is a brand that has been able to carve out an important space for itself in the cycling footwear sector”. Founded in the seventies by Celestino Vercelliwho at the end of his career as a professional cyclist decided to create Vittoria, the company has been able to win the favor of elite athletes over the years thanks to the quality of its cycling shoes, protagonists on the roads of the Tour de France and major competitions cycling. Since its foundation in 1976, Vittoria has reached the heights of international competition thanks to names who have written important pages of modern cycling, starting with Stephen Roche who in 1987 signed a historic triptych: Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and World Championship. But it’s in the name of Marco Pantani that the history of the two companies is intertwined, because the Pirate achieved the great triumphs of the 90s wearing Vittoria shoes and pedaling on Selle Italia. And so now the circle closes: “We wanted to seize not only a market opportunity, but we also let ourselves be guided by our heart, because we believe that the development of new technologies in the wake of our Italian tradition could be the winning strategy in the next future, also integrating it with the scientific nature of the Imatch brand – underlines Riccardo Bigolin, who represents the second generation in Selle Italia – We aim to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s market, working on the synergy between our realities, where Made in Italy remains the key of success.”
