Ragin' Cajuns Football Assistant Coach D.J. Looney collapsed from a heart attack during a team workout on Saturday, Aug. 1.
He was transported to University Hospital & Clinics, where he was pronounced dead. He was 31 years old.
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics released the following statement via Facebook: “The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Department of Athletics mourns the sudden loss of Louisiana Football assistant coach D.J. Looney...At this time, the Department of Athletics asks that fans, friends and acquaintances of Coach Looney keep his family and the football program in their thoughts and prayers.”
Head Coach Billy Napier, Governor John Bel Edwards and LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron expressed their condolences via social media as well.
