The ninth-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are still a team on a mission despite their four losses, including the most recent to the Mcneese Cowboys.
Wednesday, at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park, the Ragin’ Cajuns faced the Cowboys in an 11-inning battle that ended with Louisiana falling short 5-4. The Cowboys snapped Louisiana’s eight-game win streak and delivered the first home loss of the season.
Alissa Dalton produced a game-high three hits (3-for-5) for her fifth multiple-hit game. She scored a run in the fifth inning which allowed Louisiana to answer. Julie Rawls was 2-for-3 at the plate, she stretched her current hitting streak to a season-best seven. Pitcher Summer Ellyson delivered her third double-digit strikeout performance of the season, collecting 11 strikeouts from the Cowboys in this contest.
Louisiana quickly forgot this loss and began their three-game series against Sun Belt Conference competitor South Alabama. The Ragin’ Cajuns started off hot winning the first two matchups.
In the first matchup, Louisiana displayed an impressive 11-7 victory in 7 innings with well-rounded contributions. Bailey Curry led the charge with a two-run home run at the beginning that preceded a solo home run by Sarah Hudek.
Raina O’Neal, Alissa Dalton, and Julie Rawls combined for six runs, with Keeli Milligan collecting her 35th stolen base of the season and going 2-for-4 from the plate.
In the second matchup, Louisiana was on a roll again offensively, winning 11-2 in 5 innings. Dalton and Lexie Comeaux were pivotal players in this victory with their strong hitting. Dalton claimed a three-run shot and Comeaux blasted a grand slam in the fourth inning to snatch the victory. In addition, Raina O’Neal finished 3-for-4 from the plate
As for pitching, Kandra Lamb, Carrie Boswell, Casey Dixon and Alison Deville worked together in the circle to slow down South Alabama. Aeriyl Mass collected her season’s best with two stolen bases.
The Ragin’ Cajuns sealed the second victory with Kandra Lamb having three strikeouts, and Casey Dixon and Alison Deville pitching 1 ⅓ inning of scoreless softball.
Louisiana swept South Alabama in a dominant 14-0 victory in 6 innings in the last matchup for the series.
Summer Ellyson led the charge producing a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts, making it her third no-hitter in her career and the first since the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinal against Texas State.
Louisiana offensively was explosive with Raina O’Neal hitting a two-run home run. Bailey Curry delivered another homerun to tie teammate Casidy Chaumont for game-high RBI honors.
Kourtney Gremillion got in on the action, sending a solo home run. Alison Dalton went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored. The Ragin’ Cajuns sent 12 batters to the plate and seven runs to put the icing on victory.
Louisiana extended its series-best winning streak over South Alabama to 12 games. The Ragin' Cajuns have won every match updating back to the 2016 season.
The next game for the Ragin’ Cajuns will be March 29, 2019, at Georgia Southern where they will try to extend their winning streak.
